Services for Victims/Survivors with Limited English Proficiency
Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Victims/Survivors
The Accessibility Project is designed to provide technical assistance and education for victim service providers to provide access for victims/survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence who have limited English proficiency, are deaf or hard of hearing in New Mexico and those with other disabilities, as broadly defined in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The project goal is to have service providers meet their obligations to provide access to services to all clients. The project is being funded in the 2017-2018 fiscal year by grants through the NM Crime Victims Reparations Commission.
As a note to all programs, federal law mandates that services for persons with limited English proficiency (LEP) and services for persons with hearing disabilities are required in any program or activity that either receives Federal financial assistance or is conducted by any Executive agency. Limited English proficiency (LEP) services are required under Executive Order 13166, more information can be found here. Services for persons who are are deaf or hard of hearing and those with other disabilities are required by the Americans with Disabilities Act, information available here.
